Gutter Guards, Filters, Brushes and Downpipe Strainers

Four ways to keep a gutter clear

Aluminium mesh by the metre, plastic mesh by the roll, brush inserts by the set and stainless strainers for the downpipe. Which one is right depends on what falls on your roof.

Aluminium does not rust

A gutter is a wet channel that holds silt, and rust is what turns a steel guard into the thing blocking the gutter. The aluminium mesh is 0.7 mm and it will not.

Sold by the metre

The aluminium guard has no minimum. One awkward run over a doorway costs a metre, not a roll. The plastic mesh comes as a 6 m roll for a whole side of a house.

Fitted without a toolkit

The aluminium cuts with tin snips, the plastic cuts with scissors and the brush guards push in and hold themselves. Nothing here needs a fixing or a drill.

The blockage starts at the outlet

Debris travels along the channel and packs into the top of the downpipe where nobody can see it. The 304 stainless strainers catch it where you can.

Gear for doing it safely

A 3.2 m telescoping ladder, a pole tool that clears the channel from the ground, level 5 cut resistant sleeves and cowhide gloves in four sizes at one price.

Many gutter covers come in a variety of colours or can be coated with weatherproof paint to match your roof or trim.

Leaf guards for gutters require very little upkeep, usually just a light rinse a few times a year to ensure maximum water flow and performance.
A gutter guard protects the fascia, the eaves and the foundation from overflow, which is maintenance rather than an improvement. We do not publish a figure for what it adds to a sale price, because we have none.
Gutter covers reduce the need for manual cleaning and protect your gutters year-round. They’re a one-time solution versus seasonal labour.
Many leaf guards for gutters are DIY-friendly and can be installed with basic tools. For a seamless fit, professional installation is recommended.

Gutter guards are a long-term investment that can save thousands in water damage repairs, roof rot, and gutter maintenance costs over time.
Gutter covers significantly reduce cleaning but may still require occasional rinsing. They lower cleaning needs by over 90%, saving you time and effort.
Yes, leaf guards for gutters are engineered to manage high water volumes. Premium designs can handle over 120 inches of rain per hour without overflow.
Gutter guards made from stainless steel or aluminium are built for long-term durability with minimal upkeep. Their lifespan depends on material strength, weather exposure, and how well they’re installed and maintained.
Gutter covers are compatible with most roofing materials including metal, tile, and asphalt shingles. Choose a system designed for your specific roof pitch and gutter size for best performance.
Yes, leaf guards for gutters prevent debris buildup by forming a barrier while letting water pass through. This drastically reduces clogging and overflow, especially during heavy rainfall.
Gutter guards are protective systems that sit over your gutters to block leaves and debris. They allow rainwater to flow freely, preventing clogs and reducing maintenance by up to 85% .
Buying guide

Choosing the right gutter guard

We sell gutter protection and nothing else, so this is the short version: which guard suits which roof, and the measurements that decide whether you are happy with it.

Start with what falls on your roof

This is the decision everything else follows from. Broad leaves and twigs are stopped by anything here. Pine needles, seed pods and grit are not: they fall between the bristles of a brush guard and through a coarse mesh, so a fine mesh such as the aluminium guard with its 3.5 x 2 mm hole is the one to buy.

Aluminium or plastic is a sunlight question

The aluminium guard is 0.7 mm and does not rust or go brittle. The plastic mesh costs a fraction of it and does the same job, until years of full Australian sun make it brittle. Plastic for a shaded run, a shed or a rental. Aluminium for the north-facing side you would rather not do twice.

A brush guard is the one you can fit anywhere

A mesh has to be cut and held down, usually under the first row of tiles. The brush guard is pushed in and wedges itself, so it goes round an internal corner, over a curved profile and past a bracket with nothing cut at all. Eighteen brushes cover 16.5 metres.

Do the downpipe as well as the gutter

A blocked gutter is usually a blocked outlet. The downpipe leaf guards are 304 stainless, fit a 75 mm downpipe and come four to a set, which is one per downpipe on most single-storey houses. They work on their own and they work better behind a guard.

The ladder is the part that hurts people

The telescoping ladder reaches 3.2 metres, which is a single-storey gutter line and not a two-storey one. The pole tool takes most of the work to the ground. The cut resistant sleeves are for the folded edge of the gutter itself, which is what actually cuts an arm.
